Becky: An Individual Approach

Becky is featured in our book The New Me Diet under the name Barbara. We changed her name like we did all of our clients in the book to respect their privacy. Becky has become such an inspiration to so many people that she has consented to let us tell her story and share her before and after pics with you. She has been one of our biggest advocates. We are flattered that she gives our program some credit in her success, but the truth is this change was all about her. Thanks for letting us share your story Becky.

Becky has three young daughters all just a few years apart. She was fit most of her life but after having three children in 4 1/2 years she said her metaboism changed. Before she knew it, she was close to 100 pounds overweight.  She wanted to lose weight, but with being a mother it was difficult for her to find the time and motivation for exercise. Besides that, her old ways of staying thin and fit—eat less, exercise more—no longer worked for her. Her willpower was constantly challenged and her schedule was never her own. One of things she felt from the start  was that her energy was completely sapped. She knew she could lose weight if she could just get her energy back and have more time.

Becky is a mixed burner but having kids moved her metabolism to a point where she had difficulty using fat and preferred burning sugar for energy instead (sugar burner). Becky joined one of our outdoor group workouts at a regularly scheduled time three to five times a week while her girls were in school. She also eventually participated in one of our periodic fat loss programs where she was given a diet to more closely match her metabolism to go along with the exercise. Her new diet allowed six meals a day.  At every major meal she was allowed ten bites of carbs or less and was advised to eat fiber from vegetables and lean protein. Like all of our clients, Becky was instructed to use hunger, cravings, and energy to guide her food choices and the amount of protein, fiber and starch she ate. The new diet wasn’t one of deprivation and it worked with her schedule (eating frequent meals and snacks like her kids).

During the first eight weeks of the program she lost more than 5 percent body fat. This is when her focus switched from weight loss to fat loss.  Over nine months Becky lost 89 pounds and her body fat dropped from 40 percent to close to 20 percent. Becky has become an inspiration to her friends and all of us at Metabolic Effect. When people ask her for her advice she tells them, “What I love about the the Metabolic Effect system is that it isn’t a one-size-fits-all program.  Instead, the diet and workout are individualized to fit into my lifestyle. She says, “I’m back to the size I was in college, but my husband repeatedly tells me how much more toned and fit I am now. I've noticed the most difference in my arms--the change is remarkable, and I have noticed how much stronger I am and how much more energy than I have than ever before."
