The Philosophy of ME™

The philosophy of the metabolic effect is born out of the marriage between Naturopathic Medicine and the latest advances in endocrinology, weight loss, and strength and conditioning research. The major philosophical principle underlying the metabolic effect is that it is the environmental influence on our genes that determines both genetic expression and metabolic and physical function. Only by altering the environment we live in through proper exercise, diet and lifestyle can we begin to approach optimal physical fitness, function and form that determine whether we have health or disease.

The philosophical underpinnings of ME™ program are as follows:

When it comes to weight loss, we believe calories are important, but hormones determine where, when and how those calories are used. Cutting calories works against the metabolism in the long run. When food is reduced the body responds as if it were starving, and it will conserve its fat stores for as long as possible.

Hormones are the messengers that tell the body how to react in the world. Every time we eat, exercise, sleep, and undergo stress, hormones are released that tell our body to burn or store fat, to age fast or slow, and to react in a anxious unhealthy way or to take a more healthy laid back approach. Smart exercise, diet and lifestyle choices will favorably impact hormones and reduce the need for will power by allowing the body to work with your intentions rather than against them.

Exercise intelligently and make the body work for you not against you:

The ME™ philosophy is that exercise quality is more important than exercise quantity. This is a fact that research supports. Efficient directed exercise eliminates the need for long drawn out workouts and allows maximum benefits with minimal time. If the effort applied is directed and vigorous the metabolism will respond with increased energy usage long after the exercise has stopped

Exercise in a way that addresses fitness, function, and form

The metabolic effects chief aim is to provide a fully holistic exercise program. The program avoids fads and current exercise trends in favor of results. Rather than focusing on what is popular we focus on what works. Elite athletes do not train to look good, their enhanced body shape comes from developing fitness and function related to their sport. We have developed our exercises in such a way as to emphasize and develop ideal body form, the same; through optimal fitness and enhanced function. Only a program that stresses and develops strength, balance, coordination, speed and body composition will address the major determinants of wellbeing and fitness.

Outdoor exercise is needed and adds to the Metabolic Effect:

Sticking to the holistic principles of natural medicine, ME makes conscious use of the outdoors. The average American spends upwards of 90% of their life indoors. Exposure to poor air quality and artificial lighting present challenges to developing physiological processes geared toward health. Negative ions, clean air, and natural sunlight found outdoors provide benefits for weight loss, physiological functioning, and hormonal balance.

The metabolic effect takes advantage of the combined efforts of a coach and a group.  Our trainers act as your coach providing the “know how”, motivation, and the focus required to reach your goals. The added advantage of a group means you are getting a support system that automatically provides accountability, enhances workout intensity, and allows you to work with the best trainers in the business by sharing the cost.
